People like to call empathy exercises "corny/cringe" and usually it is right until one of them gets to you and its like a goddamn punch in the stomach. I'll always respect the people who give them a chance cause it might miss like 90% of the participants but the remaining 10% will get a priceless experience out of it

This scene is really moving, it made me think about all the suffer and all the terrible things that a lot of people have to go through. It shows how despite all the differences people can all have something in common, from the best and happiest one to the worst one. I was taken by all the games of glances that all the students shared that made me undestand their feelings and the mutual understanding from all the tragic and bad things that they all have lived. Definetly on my watchlist!!!

I really love the way she doesn’t give up on her students. I think the journals can be a good idea, ‘cause it can help them open up and see that they are more alike than what they think. I wished our school had a teacher like her! definitely added to my watch list

I think it’s a stunning scene because it shows the reality of the life of many teenagers. The game played is a beautiful way to make young people understand that they have in common more than what they think. I really loved the meaning of it!

My class (8th grade) did this but instead of gang violence it turned to mental heath problems and eventually sexual assault. Now some people might think this scene is cheesy or dumb, but the truth is I think it really helped our whole class bond closer. By the end of it, everyone was crying, except for a few students who were laughing, though they got shunned; and yes, I feel that teachers should do something like this more often. It really helps people understand how many people have gone through something similar.

I like how she doesn’t treat her students poorly because they are People of Color and regurgitating racial implications of racial biases & racial stereotypes. She is such a caring and independent teacher. WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE HER, who actually cares about her students success!!! She really sees them struggling and wants to get them out of poverty or other financial hardships when it comes to financial instability & embezzlement of money.

This reminds me of an illistration that was done in a prison to show the men that regardless of their race, they all had a very tragic past. I did 19 years of prison ministry, and that was the most impactful exercise I'd ever seen. ~I used to be a homeless suicidal drug addicted murdering gay prostitute that was kidnapped for sx trafficking, so from age 6-50, I had 4 multiple personality disorders, I lived in the ghetto with Gangs contantly killing eachother. On 8/10/2017 Jesus completely healed my mind, body, soul and spitit in just 1 day. I found out it only takes 1 Day to LIsten to the NT Bible. The Truth broke every chain! Since then I live a very quite life, content and blessed, bec all I do in my free time, is I've read my Bible from cover to cover every single month for the last 6 years. The SHU would be affective if they could all listen to the NT Bible 24/7. I no longer want anything that the world has to offer. After I bought a house, I went on a mission trip in Brazil, and all I wanted to do was move there with only a backpack full of survival gear. Simply catch a fish, puck fruits and vegitables that grow wild, bathe in the river, and read and sleep in a hammock, and have a tarp for when it rains.. Sounds like Paradise 🎉 Only Love & The TRUTH can set us free. Once I LET Jesus heal me, it's now like I'm telling someone else's story, because All I know now is Love joy peace patients kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control, Gal 6:22. Only Jesus can bring us from the end of the line which is where I was... to the very front. Once we stop looking at our past mistakes, regrets, and various lack, we can walk in confidence with our heads held high, bec of who we are in Christ. HE chooses the foolish things/people of this world to confound the wise/proud. ~ I wish I knew my mother's story before she died, I have been able to forgive her 100% since finding out about her secret past. Hurt people, hurt people.

I will never forget the times teachers did this exercise with my class, twice in middle, it started off as innocent but once the questions get deep it brings back many memories like once a girl it my class began to cry when the teacher asked if we have any family members who were deported and it trigger a sad memory for her, she was allowed to stop and see the counselor. Another time I will never forget when a teacher asked "step over the line if you've ever tried drugs/drink" everyone except me stepped over then I did the I love you sign because we had to, then on the flip side a question that still haunts me was "step over the line if you've ever been bullied by a teacher" I was the only one to step over, and in that moment I felt so disgusted because I was in a class where everyone was popular or favor by teachers and I thought "they'll never understand the trauma of what that feels like" I felt so jugded even though the exercise was meant to join us together, looking back that class was full of snakes. I'm over it now but damn.
